About Your Print

Hahnemühle Bamboo is the world’s first environmentally friendly fine art paper. It is produced from 90% Bamboo fibres and 10% cotton, resulting in a light-textured felt structure that holds sharpness and intensity well. Bamboo crops require less water and maintenance, grow faster, & outproduce their cotton counterparts.

Many types of regular photographic paper in circulation are coated in a thin layer of plastic and cannot be recycled without specialist facilities. This archival quality print is uncoated, meaning long after we are gone the print will degrade naturally without leaching harmful chemicals into the soils. It is OBA free so won’t yellow over time, and with proper care and conditions, can last 100+ years in the home.

Care Advice

Do not touch the printed surfaces even with cotton gloves.

Traces of contact can become visible even if hands are clean. Matte papers, dark areas and areas with smooth tonality (i.e. blue skies) are particularly prone as fine velvet-like fibres are injected onto the paper to achieve colour. Cotton gloves protect the print area and margin against oil transfer from the skin.

Use the provided white margin for handling.

A margin is provided to avoid contact with the surface – this should be used for handling – and can be displayed in the frame as a modern alternative to a separate picture mount.

Store with archival plastic or tissue.

Any material that comes into contact with the print should be acid-free. Glassine paper is a good option. Storage should be dry, cool, and away from direct sunlight. Avoid humid areas.

Relax the print.

If your print arrives rolled in a tube allow it a few days to relax and flatten, face down on tissue paper. Avoid placing heavier objects on top as this could dent the surface of the paper.

Protect from UV light.

Prints will have maximum age-resistance if framed behind conservation-grade glass. UV light protection prevents discoloration and fading over time. Avoid displaying in direct sunlight. Alternatively, an invisible protective spray can be purchased directly from Hahnemühle which is non-yellowing and provides UV protection.

Where to Display

Hahnemühle Bamboo’s matte surface handles various light conditions well and can be displayed in both low & brightly lit areas.
